{"id":1023,"date":"2012-03-27T16:58:46","date_gmt":"2012-03-27T16:58:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/isabelbarrosarchitects.ie\/blog\/?p=1023"},"modified":"2012-10-09T16:23:05","modified_gmt":"2012-10-09T16:23:05","slug":"visit-to-power-tower-energy-ag-in-austria","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/isabelbarrosarchitects.ie\/blog\/visit-to-power-tower-energy-ag-in-austria\/","title":{"rendered":"Visit to Power Tower Energy AG in Austria"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Power Tower in Linz, Austria is the first office tower to attempt to meet the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Passive_House\" target=\"_blank\">Passive House<\/a> standards.<\/p>\n<p>This visit was part of the <a href=\"http:\/\/isabelbarrosarchitects.ie\/blog\/renewable-energy-research-trip-to-austria\/\" rel=\"bookmark\" target=\"_blank\">Renewable Energy Research Trip to Austria<\/a> that took place in November 2011.<\/p>\n<p>The Power Tower was built to house the corporate headquarters of the Austrian utility company Energie AG. The new offices were built from 2006 to 2008 on the same location of Energy AG previous headquarters built in the 1930s. We were told that when they demolished the original building everything that was possible to reuse it was kept and used in the new building.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Energy Systems<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Power Tower is not dependent of fossil fuels. The energy is obtained through the soil and the ground water, and\/or generated by the solar panels that are integrated into the fa\u00e7ade.<\/p>\n<p>Fa\u00e7ade<\/p>\n<p><em>Dieter Moor<\/em> from <a href=\"http:\/\/ertex-solar.at\/cms\/\" target=\"_blank\">Ertex Solar<\/a> was our guide for this visit. He explained the fa\u00e7ade was specifically developed for this project and 90% of the solar heat remains outside the building, therefore it was not necessary to install a conventional air-conditioning system. A small device inside each module sucks the air and moisture. A controlled ventilation system supplies fresh air, as the windows of the building cannot be opened.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Lighting<\/p>\n<p>A total of almost 700 LED lighting elements were installed, which create extraordinary light effects.
