Many cities, <em>including Dublin<\/em>, <em>are likely to face severe water demand over the next 20 years<\/em>. <\/span><a title=\"The Irish Times - Cities are running out of water\" href=\"http:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/newspaper\/ireland\/2009\/0416\/1224244810788.html\" target=\"_blank\"><span>Read more<\/span><\/a><span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span>These are the key findings of a <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.eea.europa.eu\/publications\/water-resources-across-europe\" target=\"_blank\"><span>report published by the European Environment Agency<\/span><\/a><span> looking at over-use of water across the continent: <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.edie.net\/news\/news_story.asp?id=16183\" target=\"_blank\"><span>Europe running out of water<\/span><\/a><span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span><strong>This should make us all feel more responsible for the water we consume and take all the necessary measures to save as much water as possible.<\/strong> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">What is Rainwater Harvesting?<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span>Rainwater harvesting is the collection, filtering, storage and use of rainwater. This water is used in non-potable applications, such as:<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<ul>\n<li><span>WC and urinal flushing<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<ul>\n<li><span>irrigation and landscape watering<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<ul>\n<li><span>garden watering<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<ul>\n<li><span>vehicle washing<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<ul>\n<li><span>domestic laundry<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The rainwater harvesting has re-gained its importance as a valuable option or an additional water resource.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">There are a number of types of systems to harvest rainwater ranging from very simple to more complex and more efficient systems. Generally, rainwater is either harvested from the ground or from a roof.<em> <\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The\u00a0three basic types of rainwater harvesting system available:<\/p>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Gravity<\/strong> (non-pressurised): Collected rainwater is pumped from the main holding tank to an elevated header \/ break tank.
