The brief asked for additional accommodation to meet current lifestyle demands.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The site presents a number of challenges, including a house over 150 years old, the proximity to a Special Area of Conservation (River Nore), \u00a0the existing topography, and so on&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/I81d4zkKUMs\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Early in the design process a strong direction was identified as being the one that would respect the existing wood while taking full advantage of the river views.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/isabelbarrosarchitects.ie\/blog\/river-house-kilkenny\/16125_site-layout_blog3\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-3253\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3253\" src=\"http:\/\/isabelbarrosarchitects.ie\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/16125_Site-Layout_Blog3.jpg\" alt=\"16125_site-layout_blog3\" width=\"1280\" height=\"832\" srcset=\"https:\/\/isabelbarrosarchitects.ie\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/16125_Site-Layout_Blog3.jpg 1280w, https:\/\/isabelbarrosarchitects.ie\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/16125_Site-Layout_Blog3-300x195.jpg 300w, https:\/\/isabelbarrosarchitects.ie\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/16125_Site-Layout_Blog3-768x499.jpg 768w, https:\/\/isabelbarrosarchitects.ie\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/16125_Site-Layout_Blog3-1024x666.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1280px) 100vw, 1280px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The proposal calls for an adaptive reuse of\u00a0the existing house. The new volumes create an amicable relationship with the old house, mimicking it in a contemporary way.<\/p>\n<p>A new axis is created to link the different elements. This axis regulates the space by creating a clear circulation path that works like a journey of discovery\u00a0around the house. The light and views are captured and framed to enhance the all experience.<\/p>\n<p>The main living space offers a full open view to the river. Framed views of the surrounding landscape are provided by projecting windows that puncture the main structure.<\/p>\n<p>The concept resolves the complex constraints on site by designing a house that is in harmony with the site and with the existing old house, which dates back to the early 1800&#8217;s or possibly late 1700&#8217;s.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/isabelbarrosarchitects.ie\/blog\/river-house-kilkenny\/16125_4\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-3261\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3261\"
