There are large fields surrounding the site, the fields are delineated by native hedges and trees. autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen=\"\"><\/iframe><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:44px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>DESIGN CONCEPT<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The design is strongly\nrelated to the landscape and the place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The proposed site layout is\ninspired by the nearby traditional courtyard farmyards.&nbsp; The visual impact is reduced by careful selection of materials that play with mass and weight whilst combining the present with the past.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A simple palette of materials is proposed \u2013 white rendered surfaces, notes of rubble stone and grey corrugated metal. The materials aim to connect cultural and local values with a contemporary built environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:54px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ENERGY PERFORMANCE and SUSTAINABILITY<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Passive House Standard<\/strong><br>The project\u2019s aspirations include to build a low energy sustainable house guided by the <em>Passive House<\/em> Standard with a view to achieve full certification by the <em>Passive House<\/em> Institute.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Passive House<\/em> is the world\u2018s leading standard in energy efficient construction. The <em>Passive House<\/em> Standard stands for quality, comfort and energy efficiency. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Passive Houses <\/em>stay at a comfortable temperature year-round with minimal energy inputs. Such buildings are heated \u201cpassively\u201d, making efficient use of the sun, internal heat sources and heat recovery so that conventional heating systems are rendered unnecessary throughout even the coldest of winters. The fenestration facing North is minimal to reduce heat loss. Overhangs to shade south-facing windows are also used to reduce overheating during the summer. The house is carefully positioned to avoid the shade caused by the trees in the northern boundary (2 to 8 metres tall).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Building Energy Rating (BER) and Nearly\nZero-Energy Building (nZEB)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The preliminary specifications indicate a Building Energy Rating (BER) of A1 corresponding to an Energy Value of 3.77 KWh\/m2\/yr. Careful detailing will be essential to achieve the required airtightness and avoid thermal bridges. The house aims to use a contemporary architectural language inspired by traditional elements and materials of the rural vernacular architecture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The design creates visual and physical connections with its surroundings.
