White Box Makeover
Location: Wexford, Ireland
Area: 182 sq.m.
Year: 2023
Isabel Barros Architects proposal for a deep transformation to a rural dwelling house in Wexford, Ireland.
The main goal for this project was to achieve a more visually attracting and modern external appearance.
One of the major challenges we faced was the substantial impact of the existing volume created by the massive roof. In addition the clipped gable roofs, the wall finishes and windows were very unattractive. Internally, issues with the overall layout added complexity to this project.
The proposed design presents an extraordinary transformation that reshapes the aesthetics of the entire house.
At the heart of this project is a concept that seamlessly integrates modernity with balance. The proposal wraps the house in sleek metal cladding not only to add a contemporary edge but also to serve as a unifying element for the entire dwelling.
Central to the design is the introduction of a white box. This white box breaks the volume, creating a visual and architectural balance. It not only introduces a dynamic contrast to the metal cladding but also serves as a focal point that breathes fresh life into the aesthetics of the house.
